Catherine Whittle is a sales and marketing professional with extensive experience who has enjoyed a successful career and has gained an excellent reputation within the hotel and spa industries.  An entrepreneurial spirit, Catherine is passionate, self-motivated, results orientated and has a creative flair.  She thrives on embracing and rising to new challenges. Catherine demonstrates great commercial awareness and is skilled in both strategic marketing and B2B sales (new business development, corporate, agency, account management and negotiation).  Catherine is an advocate of best practice sales and strategic marketing, keeping up to date with the market and is always aware of and keen to embrace emerging trends.  She is not afraid to try new things, or challenge existing ways of doing things.  She is passionate and determined and if your business needs re-energising or you are launching something new, she will first of all help you frame your vision, then working with your team, develop an effective sales and marketing strategy, nail your differentiators and then finally kickstart into action a plan to make it happen.

 

An inspirational leader, she has motivated and developed many younger people to establish themselves, gain in confidence and do well in their careers.  She is often asked to talk at industry events about sales and marketing in the hotel and spa industries, giving tips on how to attract more, keep existing and gain new customers.

 

She has created her very own sales training and enquiry handling courses especially for hotels and spas which have also been adapted for other customer facing industries.

 

As well as offering a consultancy service and delivering specialist training to spa teams, Catherine has proven that her skills are transferable to other businesses and has further expanded her experience and network of contacts through working on a variety of sales and marketing related projects and contracts.

 

Catherine is a Non Executive Director within the Hospitality Industry.  She is also an Associate of HT Training and an advocate of "Insights Discovery".  Her Insights Discovery profile is a "Classic Motivating Director".

Throughout the 10 years that Catherine worked with me as Sales and Marketing Director at The Vineyard and Donnington Valley, she was passionate, conscientious and very determined and she rose to the many challenges presented to her both by the hotels and the global economy. Her actions were very result oriented; if there was no obvious outcome then there was no point in undertaking the task!

 

She was liked and respected by her peers, her teams and our owners, Sir Peter Michael and his family. Her vision, innovation and results-focused ability to 'make things happen' helped to take The Vineyard to the peak of it’s success turning it around from a loss making business to a profitable and award-winning one. In 2006/7, when we invested £12 million and doubled the size of the then 58 bedroom Donnington Valley Hotel, she put together a launch plan which ensured that within it’s first year of trading as a 113 bedroom hotel and spa, turnover doubled and operating profit grew fourfold.

 

Catherine has left a legacy in Newbury and I would highly recommend her to anyone needing someone to re-energise their sales and marketing effort in order to boost their profits.

I have known and worked with Catherine for many years, initially when she account managed Inntel for Donnington Valley Hotel and the Vineyard at Stockcross.

 

Catherine was also the hotels’ representative for the HBAA (Hotel Booking Agents’ Association) and we worked together on the Training Committee where her ideas, knowledge and vibrant personality were an asset in the development of course content and promoting the courses to the HBAA membership.  Catherine also worked on the membership committee where her role was to secure new members and ensure membership retention.

 

In 2008 I was very fortunate in that Catherine was elected my ‘co-pilot’, when she became Chairman representing the HBAA venues and hotels with myself being Chairman of the Association.  Catherine threw herself into the 12 month role with great charisma and energy, putting in many personal hours to ensure we met our objectives.  She was a great support, fun to work with and we had an amazingly successful year, leaving a legacy of benefits to the association which are still in place today!
